I tried scanning at 300 dpi instead of 75 like I do for my regular feature(s). I discovered that, when you close and reopen a sufficiently large PNG in Vista MSPaint, the file is anti-aliased. That worked against me today, and had to be cleaned up afterwards, but it ought to be useful in the future.
